GKM has been awarded a major contract to supply, install and commission all instrumentation related to a Kiserian Dam in Kenya near Nairobi. GKM personnel will be involved at strategic phases during construction of the dam and will work closely with the Main Contractor. Instrumentation program is used to provides more comprehensive and timelier information regarding the on-going performance of the dam. The main purpose of the upcoming dams in Africa will be for water supply for population and also for irrigation. Kiserian Dam project, whose cost is estimated at sh1.062 billion, was first launched in 1988 but abandoned because of lack of finance. It was not until January 2009 – about two decades later – that the reconstruction began. The dam catchment area is about 15 hactares. It will target a population of 253,000 living in Kiserian, Ngong, Ongata Rongai, Matasia, and Corner Baridi. The current demand of water in the area is 27,705 cubic meters per day leaving a deficit of 23,105 cubic meters.
